Meet Rusty!

Rusty is ready for his new beginning!

This one-year old, 36-lb cutie came to Buddy after being found as a stray with his Mom and sister downstate.. When Rusty first arrived, he was quite timid and unsure. He required a lot of coaxing and some incentive in the form of treats to feel comfortable coming in and out of the shelter. With patience and routine, Rusty has made tremendous progress. He now, "knows he's a dog" and carries himself with confidence and is eager to explore, play and make new friends with people and other dogs.

Rusty loves walks and yard time, chasing toys, and showing off how fast he can run! He knows the "sit" command, learns quickly, and enjoys working for praise. He's snuggly and affectionate too. He does have one adorable quirk: if he decides he is done walking or playing, he will gently plop down and look up at you with his big brown eyes as if to say "let's just enjoy this moment". Often these moments lead to belly rubs and cuddles.

Rusty is a truly wonderful young dog who's polite, sweet, and oh-so ready for a forever home!

He would do well in a home that can continue giving him steady structure and positive reinforcement as he settles in. We've seen him show a naturally submissive demeanor with slightly larger dogs during off-leash play. On leash, he can show a bit more confidence, but is still polite at introductions.

Rusty's sweet nature, eagerness to please, and the progress he has already made show how well he thrives when he feels safe and supported. He will be a wonderful companion for someone who wants a loving young dog with a great foundation to build on.  Come to The Buddy Foundation and see what you're missing in your life - this wonderful dog!
